Pride of Myland Youth Award

Launch of the Pride of Myland Youth Award

This has been a difficult year for many of us, but it has been particularly hard for our young people. Myland Community Council knows that many children and young people make a great contribution to our community, and we want to recognise their achievements through our new Pride of Myland Youth Award. There will be a first prize of £60 in vouchers (for each age category) to spend at local Colchester venues on eating out, leisure activities or on books.

How to take part
We are simply asking children or young people to tell us about an activity they carry out which benefits our community. This could be something that they are doing themselves, or an activity they are carrying out as part of a badge or award scheme through their school or a club or group they belong to already. They may wish to enter on their own or as a group.

Children / young people can choose to do something that relates to one of four activity areas:

• Caring for the environment & nature
• Helping others in our community (which could also include the school / group setting)
• Tackling climate change & improving sustainability
• Health and wellbeing

There are three age categories (4 – 7, 8 – 11 and 11 – 16 years), so younger children could make a bug hotel to encourage wildlife whereas older entrants may choose a project helping in the community or tackling sustainability issues. These are broad headings, and we want to see your imaginative ideas for making a difference!

Submitting an entry
We are asking schools or young people’s groups / clubs to submit entries to the Council through an online form, which asks for a brief description of the activity and the positive impact (there is also the option to include a photo). We are asking each organisation to enter a maximum of four projects. The closing date is 11.59pm on 30 April 2021. Updates will be posted on the Council Facebook page and website. We look forward to receiving your entries!

The award is open to children or young people who live in the Myland area or who attend a school or group in the Myland area. If you have a question about a child taking part or if your organisations wants to be involved / submit entries, please email:
